Kari Franks, PT, MPT

Kari has been practicing physical therapy for over 17 years in an outpatient orthopedic setting. She graduated from the Chapman University with her Master’s Degree in physical therapy. She believes in evidence base practice and attends continuing education classes to stay current. She has served as a clinical instructor for the local physical therapy program and mentors volunteers who have aspirations to join the field of physical therapy. Kari has a long history of working with high school, college, Olympic and professional athletes using an evidence-based approach. She also works with patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and have undergone a lumpectomy or mastectomy to assist the patient with return to an active life style. In her spare time, Kari enjoys going to the Colorado River, walking her dog and traveling with her husband and two children.

Roger Taillon, PT, PT

Roger has been practicing physical therapy for forty-two years in outpatient orthopedics and sports rehabilitation. He graduated from California State University at Long Beach in 1975. For the past seventeen years he has directed and co-directed the office in Newport Beach. He has attended national and local courses pertaining to shoulder rehabilitation. He works closely with local renowned orthopedic surgeons developing the most up to date surgical and non-surgical shoulder rehabilitation protocols. He observes surgeries on a regular basis. He has undergone four shoulder surgeries himself and is extremely empathetic to patients recovering for shoulder surgery. In his spare time, Roger enjoys surfing, cycling and weight training.

Ed Detels OTR/L CHT, Certified Hand Therapist

Ed Detels has been practicing hand therapy for over 20 years in Orange County. He has a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and obtained his national designation as a Certified Hand Therapist in 2002. He partnered with PRN to found California Hand Therapy in 2005, which has grown to 11 centers and employs 8 certified hand therapist as the leading outpatient hand therapy group on the West coast. Ed obtained his certification in ASTYM (a soft-tissue mobilization technique) as well as extensive continuing education with custom splinting, kinesiotape application and nerve mobilization. Ed is the father of three.

Kristi Coppa, PT, DPT, OCS

Kristi, an Orange County native, has been practicing physical therapy in this clinic for over 13 years. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy and went on to obtain board certification in Orthopedics. Kristi practices with an evidence-based approach to physical therapy and strongly believes in manual therapy. While she enjoys treating all different types of orthopedic conditions, she has developed a specialty in the foot and ankle. She works in close contact with several orthopedic surgeons to ensure the highest level of care. In addition, she also fabricates custom orthotics and assesses lower extremity dysfunction. Outside of work, Kristi enjoys being active, watching sports of all kinds and traveling with her husband and two children.

Lindsay Kirlin, PT, DPT

Lindsay Kirlin was born and raised outside of Philadelphia, where she attended and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from The Pennsylvania State University. She then attended the University of Southern California, where she received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Lindsay has completed clinical rotations in diverse settings, including 4 months at The Fischer Institute of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Phoenix, AZ, and 4 months at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles. As a former collegiate club lacrosse athlete and 3 sport high school athlete, Lindsay is dedicated to both injury prevention and rehabilitation for patients of all ages. When Lindsay is not in the clinic, you can find her hiking, boxing, teaching spin classes, paddle boarding, and training with friends. She is passionate about contributing her background of movement science, athletics, and wellness to create the individualized plans for patients to return to the activities they love.

Joel Mallari, COTA

Joel is Southern California native with nearly 20 years of experience of practicing in the field of Occupational Therapy. He obtained his degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant from Loma Linda University and went on to obtain specializations in Hand therapy. Joel’s specializations include manual therapy certifications in ASYTM, Orthopedic Splinting, NDT training, neural mobilization training and Kinesio Taping. Joel has extensive experiences working with CHT’s on complicated and traumatic injuries to the hand, wrist and elbow. Joel enjoys working full time treating patients and serving as a mentor for many Level 1 and 2 COTA students. Joel is supported by his wife and two young kids and enjoys surfing both waves and restaurants.

Casey Wallace, PT, DPT

Casey is a Southern California native who obtained his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Chapman University. He grew up playing baseball and football during which he had his first exposure the physical therapy profession. Casey enjoys working with all populations and has a passion for training and educating patients about wellness and injury prevention. He enjoys kayaking, golfing, hiking, and spending time at the beach in his free time.

Becky Groff, PTA

Becky Groff, PTA has been in a physical therapy outpatient orthopedic setting for over 21 years. In 1999, she graduated from the Cerritos College Physical Therapist Assistant program with highest honors beginning her career as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. Becky was a multi-sport scholar athlete in high school then played softball at the collegiate level. She pursued Physical Therapy and Athletic Training after experiencing an injury of her own. She dedicated her first 3 years as a PTA working with children in a Pediatric orthopedic and aquatic outpatient clinic. In 2002, she joined California Rehab and Sports Therapy at the Newport Beach location. Her experiences include working with a variety of orthopedic conditions including sports and soft tissue injuries, balance problems, and post-operative care. She has had an emphasis on complex shoulder rehabilitation since 2003 successfully incorporating manual therapy techniques into her treatment. Outside of work Becky enjoys sports, gardening, playing golf, camping and hiking with her husband and 2 children.
